Amiri Baraka (* October 7, 1934 in Newark; † January 9, 2014 in Newark) was an african-American writer. He was 79 years old. He was married to Hettie Jones and Amina Baraka. His education included Howard University, Columbia University, Rutgers University, The New School and Barringer Academy of the Arts & Humanities. His faith was Islam. He received 5 awards, including Guggenheim Fellowship, Langston Hughes Medal. His cause of death was surgical complications.
