His education included Schenley High School and University of Pittsburgh. His awards include WWE Hall of Fame and Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame. His cause of death was multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. He was buried at Christ Our Redeemer Catholic Cemetery.
