Gwendolyn Brooks (* June 7, 1917 in Topeka; † December 3, 2000 in Chicago) was an american writer. She was 83 years old. She was married to Henry Blakely. Her education included Englewood Technical Prep Academy, Hyde Park Academy High School, Kennedy–King College and Wendell Phillips Academy High School. She received 9 awards, including Guggenheim Fellowship, National Medal of Arts. Her cause of death was cancer. She was buried at Lincoln Cemetery.
