Karel Appel (* April 25, 1921 in Amsterdam; † May 3, 2006 in Zurich) was a dutch painter, sculptor, and poet. He was 85 years old. His education included Royal Academy of Fine Arts and Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten. His awards include Commander of the Order of the Netherlands Lion and Zilveren Anjer. He was buried at Père Lachaise Cemetery.
