Léopold Sédar Senghor (* October 9, 1906 in Joal-Fadiouth; † December 20, 2001 in Verson) was a first president of Senegal, poet, and cultural theorist. He was 95 years old. He was married to Colette Hubert and Ginette Éboué. His education included Faculty of Arts of Paris, École Normale Supérieure and Lycée Louis-le-Grand. His faith was Catholic Church. He received 6 awards, including Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres, Commander of the French Order of Academic Palms. He was buried at Bel-Air Cemetery.
