Saparmurat Niyazov (* February 19, 1940 in Gypjak; † December 21, 2006 in Ashgabat) was a president of Turkmenistan from 1990 to 2006. He was 66 years old. He was married to Muza Niýazowa. He had 2 children. His education included Peter the Great Saint Petersburg State Polytechnical University and Higher Party School at the Central Committee of the CPSU. His faith was Sunni Islam. His awards include Order of the Renaissance (Turkmenistan), Order of Friendship of Peoples and Order of Holy Prince Daniel of Moscow 1st class. His cause of death was myocardial infarction. He was buried at Türkmenbaşy Mosque.
