Biography
Wangari Muta Maathai (* April 1, 1940 in Nyeri; † September 25, 2011 in Nairobi) was a kenyan environmentalist and politician who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004. She was 71 years old. She was married to Mwangi Maathai. Her education included Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, University of Nairobi, University of Giessen, University of Pittsburgh, Benedictine College and Loreto High School, Limuru. Her faith was Catholic Church. She received 9 awards, including Nobel Peace Prize, Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding. Her cause of death was ovarian cancer.
