His education included Princeton University and Georgetown University Law Center. His faith was Presbyterianism. He received 4 awards, including Presidential Medal of Freedom, Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun. His cause of death was multiple myeloma. He was buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
