Fernando Alegría (* 26. September 1918 in Santiago; † 29. October 2005 in Walnut Creek) was a chilean poet, writer, literary critic and scholar. He was 87 years old. His education included University of California, Berkeley, University of Chile and Bowling Green State University. He worked at University of California, Berkeley, Stanford University, University of Chile and Bowling Green State University. His awards include Guggenheim Fellowship and Atenea awarding. His cause of death was kidney failure.
