His education included Pontifical Gregorian University, Pontifical Biblical Institute and Stiftsgymnasium Melk. His faith was Catholic Church. He received 9 awards, including Concordia Prize, Bruno Kreisky Award for Services to Human Rights. He was buried at St. Stephen's Cathedral.
