James Wyngaarden (* 19. October 1924 in Grand Rapids; † 14. June 2019 in Durham) was a director of the National Institutes of Health. He was 94 years old. His education included Calvin University and University of Michigan Medical School. He worked at Duke University School of Medicine and United States National Institutes of Health. His awards include North Carolina Award for Science and George M. Kober Medal.
