Max Roach (* January 10, 1924 in Newland; † August 16, 2007 in New York City) was an american jazz percussionist, drummer, and composer. He was 83 years old. He was married to Abbey Lincoln. His education included Manhattan School of Music, University of Massachusetts Amherst and Boys High School. He received 5 awards, including MacArthur Fellows Program, Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery.
