Emoria remembers Ottorino Respighi

🎂 GeburtstagOttorino Respighi

The first birdsong ever heard inside a symphony orchestra wasn't a flute imitating a bird. It was a real nightingale — playing on a gramophone record. In 1924, Italian composer Ottorino Respighi wrote an actual recording of a nightingale into "Pini di Roma" (Pines of Rome) — the first time a recording was ever placed inside a symphonic score. No instrument could fake that song. A quiet revolution in classical music. Today would have been his 147th birthday (born 9 July 1879, Bologna). His composition pupil Elsa became his wife in 1919 — and his greatest champion. After he died in 1936, she kept his music alive for almost 60 years, until her own death in 1996, so the world would never forget him. What we love doesn't vanish, as long as someone remembers. Send this to a musician or classical-music lover who keeps the great names alive.
