Umberto Eco (* January 5, 1932 in Alessandria; † February 19, 2016 in Milan) was an italian semiotician, essayist, philosopher, literary critic, and novelist. He was 84 years old. He was married to Renate Ramge. He studied at University of Turin. His faith was atheism. He received 9 awards, including Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres, Pour le Mérite for Sciences and Arts order. His cause of death was pancreatic cancer.
