Václav Havel (* 5. October 1936 in Prague; † 18. December 2011 in Hrádeček) was a czech statesman, playwright, and former dissident, the last president of Czechoslovakia and the first president of the Czech Republic. He was 75 years old. He was married to Olga Havlová. His education included Czech Technical University in Prague, Faculty of Theatre, Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and Akademické gymnázium Štěpánská. His faith was lapsed Catholic. He received 10 awards, including Charlemagne Prize, Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour. His cause of death was respiratory failure. He was buried at Vinohrady Cemetery.
