Annemarie Schimmel (* 7. April 1922 in Erfurt; † 26. January 2003 in Bonn) was a german scholar of Islam. She was 80 years old. She studied at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. She received 9 awards, including Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, Hilal-i-Imtiaz. She was buried at Poppelsdorf Cemetery.
