Biography of Bartel Leendert van der Waerden

Bartel Leendert van der Waerden (* 2. February 1903 in Amsterdam; † 12. January 1996 in Zurich) was a niederländischer Mathematiker. He was 92 years old. His education included University of Amsterdam, University of Göttingen and University of Hamburg. He worked at Leipzig University, University of Zurich, University of Groningen, University of Amsterdam and Johns Hopkins University. He received 5 awards, including Pour le Mérite for Sciences and Arts order, honorary doctor of the University of Athens.
