Charles Hard Townes (* 28. July 1915 in Greenville; † 27. January 2015 in Oakland) was a 20th-century American physicist. He was 99 years old. He was married to Frances Brow. His education included California Institute of Technology, Duke University, Furman University and Greenville High School. He received 10 awards, including Guggenheim Fellowship, Niels Bohr International Gold Medal.
