His education included Dartmouth College, Rollins College, Thiel College, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Greater Latrobe Senior High School and Fanny Edel Falk Laboratory School. His faith was Presbyterianism. He received 5 awards, including Presidential Medal of Freedom, Peabody Awards. He was buried at Unity Cemetery.
