He was married to Betsy Blair and Jeanne Coyne. His education included University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania State University and Peabody High School. His faith was lapsed Catholic. He received 8 awards, including National Medal of Arts, Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Children's Animated Program. His cause of death was stroke. He was buried at Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery.
