Herbert E. Balch (* 4. November 1869 in Wells; † 27. May 1958 in Wells) was an archaeologist, naturalist, caver and geologist who explored the Mendips' underground labyrinths and pioneered many of the techniques used by modern cavers. He was 88 years old. He studied at The Blue School, Wells.
