Léopold Sédar Senghor (* 9. October 1906 in Joal-Fadiouth; † 20. December 2001 in Verson) was a first president of Senegal, poet, and cultural theorist. He was 95 years old. He was married to Colette Hubert and Ginette Éboué. His education included Faculty of Arts of Paris, École Normale Supérieure and Lycée Louis-le-Grand. His faith was Catholic Church. He received 10 awards, including Grand Cross of the National Order of Merit, Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres. He was buried at Bel-Air Cemetery.
