Biography of Louis Dumont

Louis Dumont (* 1. August 1911 in Thessaloniki; † 19. November 1998 in Paris) was a französischer Anthropologe und Ethnologe. He was 87 years old. His education included Institut d'ethnologie, Lycée Saint-Louis, École pratique des hautes études and School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences. He worked at University of Oxford, Musée national des Arts et Traditions Populaires and École pratique des hautes études. His awards include honorary doctor of the University of Chicago, Honorary doctor of the University of Lausanne and Huxley Memorial Medal. He was buried at Père Lachaise Cemetery.
