He was married to Catherine Crook de Camp. His education included California Institute of Technology and Stevens Institute of Technology. He received 8 awards, including Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Award, World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement. He was buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
