Stanislav Petrov (* September 7, 1939 in Vladivostok; † May 19, 2017 in Fryazino) was an officer of the Soviet Air Defence Forces, noted for not executing a nuclear strike during a nuclear false alarm incident. He was 77 years old. He studied at Kiev Military Aviation Engineering Academy. His awards include German Media Award and Dresden Prize. His cause of death was pneumonia.
