Wangari Muta Maathai (* 1. April 1940 in Nyeri; † 25. September 2011 in Nairobi) was a kenyan environmentalist and politician who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004. She was 71 years old. She was married to Mwangi Mathai. Her education included Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, University of Nairobi, University of Giessen, University of Pittsburgh, Benedictine College and Loreto High School, Limuru. Her faith was Catholic Church. She received 10 awards, including Nobel Peace Prize, Knight of the Legion of Honour. Her cause of death was ovarian cancer.
