His education included École Normale Supérieure, Lycée Louis-le-Grand, School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences and University of Paris. He received 10 awards, including Princess of Asturias Award for Communications and Humanities, Commander of the Legion of Honour. He was buried at Montparnasse Cemetery.
