John Langshaw Austin (* 26. March 1911 in Lancaster; † 8. February 1960 in Oxford) was an englischer Philosoph und Linguist, Begründer der Sprechakttheorie. He was 48 years old. His education included Balliol College and Shrewsbury School. He worked at University of Oxford and Secret Intelligence Service. He was awarded the Officer of the Order of the British Empire. His cause of death was lung cancer.
