William C. McCool (* 23. September 1961 in San Diego; † 1. February 2003 in Texas) was an u.S. Navy Commander, NASA astronaut and the pilot of Space Shuttle Columbia which was destroyed during re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere in 2003. He was 41 years old. His education included United States Naval Academy, Naval Postgraduate School, United States Naval Test Pilot School, Coronado High School and John F. Kennedy High School. His awards include Congressional Space Medal of Honor, NASA Distinguished Service Medal and Eagle Scout. He was buried at United States Naval Academy Cemetery.
