Stanislav Petrov (* 7. September 1939 in Vladivostok; † 19. May 2017 in Fryazino) was an officer of the Soviet Air Defence Forces, noted for not executing a nuclear strike during a nuclear false alarm incident. He was 77 years old. He studied at Kiev Military Aviation Engineering Academy. He received 10 awards, including Order "For Service to the Homeland in the Armed Forces of the USSR", 3rd class, German Media Award. His cause of death was pneumonia.
